If you are Paladin player, you may know armor is one of the best things on your character. There are some things you want to think about in your quest for the best armor in the game.
Bonuses are supposed to work in your favor. Don't randomly wear pieces just because of a higher armor value; look for bonuses that will work for you. If you are a holy Paladin you will need things that increase healing and manna. If you are a protection Paladin, you want increases to defense, increases to spell damage and increases to blocking. For a retribution Paladin, you want increases in spell damage, to hit numbers, critical hit numbers, and to attack power.
Keep your stats in line for the armor and the Paladin that you want to create. Holy Paladins need intelligence, stamina and spirit. Protection Paladins need stamina, strength, and intelligence. Retribution Paladins need strength, stamina and intelligence.
Not all purple items are better than a blue item, nor are all blue items better than a green item. Remember to really look at the pieces on the auction house or that drop off higher ranking mobs. Sometimes the numbers will surprise you.
That being said, epic pieces that you will want to look for in the game are sets designed for paladins like the Justicar set. The Justicar set has three separate sets; the Justicar Armor set for protection Ppaladins, the Justicar Battlegear set for retribution Paladins, and the Justicar Raiment for holy Paladins. Keep on top of the gear that you want and check the mobs and the auction houses often for the pieces. Soon you'll have the armor that others are just craving.
Paladin as a hybrid class, choosing weapons will be very different depending on which spec you choose. What works for a Retribution Paladin will be a terrible choice for a Holy or Protection Paladin. There are a few things to bear in mind when choosing weapons for your Paladin.
First you should identify what your Paladin needs the most. This will vary depending on your spec. For the most part, Retribution Paladins are in need of Strength, Attack Power and Agility. Protection Paladins need Stamina, +Spell Damage, Intellect and possibly some +Spell Hit. Holy Paladins need Stamina, Intellect and +Healing. If you use a mixed spec, decide which you need the most of.
At a pinch, you can look for a big, slow and 2 handed weapon for your Retribution Paladin. 2-handed Maces, Swords and Axes are the best choice for Retribution Paladins, since it often allows Seal of Command to proc. Again, things to look for on a weapon include: Strength, Attack Power, Agility and maybe a little Intelligence. +Hit and +Crit chance are helpful.
Even better you should find a slow single handed Mace or Sword for your Protection Paladin. Prot Pallies need Stamina, Intellect and +Spell Damage on a weapon that has as slow an attack speed as possible. Most Prot Pallies gain agro by using Seal of Vengeance, which has a much higher chance of adding Damage over Time to your target if you're using a slow weapon. Start off using the Gavel of Unearthed Secrets, and then when you have five Vengeance ticks, switch to something like the Merciless Gladiator's Gavel or the Continuum Blade.
As Holy Paladin, you can find a caster Mace or Sword. Like all casters, Holy Pallies need Stamina, Intellect and +Spell Damage/Healing on their weapons. Maces and Swords have the best benefits for these stats and are the most effective for Paladins. There are a wealth of caster Maces and Swords, many of which are quest rewards. The Gavel of Pure Light is an excellent choice and isn't too hard to get.
If necessary, you must make a list of what you need, find a gear addon to locate your desired weapons. Atlasloot works perfectly for this.
Grab anything that is an upgrade at lower levels. Before you hit level 70, simply use what you can. Every 5-8 levels, you'll probably get an upgrade from an instance of quest reward. If you feel you need something sooner, check the Auction Halls for something better. As long as the weapon you've got has at least 1-2 of your desired stats, use it.
