The 1st to 40th should take no more than 10 to 20 hours per grade. And all the things such as any Instance runs, leveling 2 professions, using HS every now and then are included. What's more it should including buying those skills which are actually useful for that level, checking bank for alternative gear which was bought or found via AH/Drop and being glanced on the way, especially in Hillsbrad as Horde and in STV as Alli.
I follow this pattern on with all my chars, factions and classes, even minor buffs such as high level enchants and minor boosting for gear that aren’t really needed but like most of us do, go for "ze looks". Most buffs will just modify the leveling speed by 1-2 hours in total, not per level. I am actually a human being, meaning that I go to work and sleep, do other private things and so on)
If you have a friend or a Main getting bags, and some green gear from level 5 (have it in your bags) and up will save your time instead from checking the AH with the char that your currently leveling. Remember that Time is essential and have addons to modify your play style which might improve your level speed, implying that you might save 2 to7 hours in the end after getting to 40th grade.
If you don't have a Main, and have currently started on a new server, remember:
Don't buy all class skills that are available. (Unless you really need them! just buy them later, i.e. switch by checking what skills are essential for your leveling, checking/buying skills by every 2/4 levels)
You might lose about 20 to 30 WOW gold, if you simply buy all skills that are available to you after hitting 40, when your able to get your mount. And in a normal loot pattern, which means you upgrade from 6th grade to 8th grade overtime and lost basic trash, the grey gear and mail and other cloth/leather green, unless in the case of a slow down of your leveling time allot, use the AH to sell your loot, mail and weapons, especially 2H and Shields are worth more than leather/cloth.
You'll have about 50 to 60 WOW gold when you have dinged 40th grade, given that you have followed the "looting pattern" without any rare drops.
Always 2 professions for every char will boost my end game and leveling time, i.e. having alchemy or others, with the "right" gathering skill combined of, and FA is a plus!. And if you prefer to be called a farmer by having 2 gathering skills, you will gain more money, but lose more time since your spending twice the amount of time, that's to say you discover a herb and a vein. Don't buy all trade skills, only the ones that are essential. Skill up your professions when your waiting for ze boat/zep or a summon or when your spending your good 5 to10 minutes in a city for gear, skill and spell upgrades.
Use common sense. Always I state again that there are "a must" for your class, even if your equip/gear looks ugly like hell.
