If you have been playing a Shaman, you know how incredibly versatile your character is. That flexibility translates into impressive abilities in PvP combat. Think of it: ripping up the enemy with Windfury while your totems make torment your enemies and keep you safe from harm. If you're skilled with this class, Shaman PvP combat is incredible fun. The downside to your Shaman being able to do so many things is that there's a real learning curve you need to conquer to become good at player versus player combat.
Shaman has the ability to do it all with the style and power whether it is throwing down an armful of offensive and defensive totems or slicing their opponent to ribbons using Windfury. But all those abilities mean there's a real learning curve if you want to play a Shaman in PvP.
But what makes playing a Shaman difficult to master is the same thing that makes it so cool: all those totems. The Shaman has a bunch of elemental specs with more than 30 totems combined. There's a wide variety of them, with subtle differences, such as that between the Grounding Totem which disrupts attacks while Earthshock interrupts them. And some of them are very specific as to which class they are effective against, like Poison Cleanse which removes poisons as they are cast. Depending on which totem your Shaman uses, they can dispel attacks, disable Rogues, absorb the Warrior's Intercept, and slow a Hunter.
Let's take the grounding totem as example. It disrupts attacks when Earth-shock interrupts them. And Poison Cleanse removes poisons as they are cast. Depending on which totem your Shaman uses, they can dispel attacks, defang Rogues by keeping them out of combat, absorb the Warrior's Intercept ability, and slow a Hunter long enough to hit him. There are totems that are effective in virtually any situation.
As a Shaman in PvP, the key to success is to learn when, how and which totems to make use of in any situation. Only can a Shaman create many totems so fast despite there are so many totems available to utilize. And the amount of mana available to do so isn't infinite. If you don't know which totem to cast when, and how to keep them up and functioning while using mana efficiently, your Shaman will run out of totems before they run out of enemies.
So it is important to get yourself a quality Shaman PvP guide. You will learn which totems to utilize against which opponents and learn how to put totems into play against each class and how to maintain your Shaman's health and mana while holding your own against whichever class of opponent comes your way in a quality guide. Not only will it show you how to take on all nine classes in one on one duel but it will show you how your Shaman can best fit into a 2v2, 3v3, or 5v5 team.
A quality PvP guide contains strategies and tactics that are not obvious to newer players in that it incorporates the hard earned experience of veteran Shaman players. It will teach you the key things you need to know, saving you vast amounts of time you would otherwise spend on trial and error. When you can slash the length of your learning curve with a quality Shaman PvP guide, it is not necessary for you to spend hours at the bottom of the pile, sure about which totem to use when and getting crushed by more experienced players.
